Melissa V.
I attended Santa Rosa High School, and I am currently attending Santa Rosa Junior College. I am in my second year. My major is History, but I’m also pursuing an associate’s degree in social and behavioral sciences and a theatre/acting certificate. My current career goals are to become an actress while I’m still studying in higher education after my bachelor’s degree, and to later become a Historian or History professor.
I got connected through 10,000 Degrees through the College and Career Center at SRHS. They have supported me since I graduated high school, such as learning how to navigate the FAFSA application and their own application. Currently, I am in their Career mentoring program, and that has helped me a lot with connecting to different fields of work and learning more about how to start my career.
How has the ORW Scholarship impacted your educational goals?
The ORW scholarship has helped with my education are that I don’t have to worry about getting a job to pay for stuff like tuition for classes, which is very expensive, and I mainly use the scholarship for that. I do get help from EOPS at the SRJC to cover my textbook expenses, but the ORW scholarship has saved me a lot of time that I have been using to study and focus on schoolwork.
